A private sale is when you purchase a vehicle from another individual/person. In this case you will need:
Original Title
Drivers License (for all owners)
Insurance Information (Name of Insurance company, Policy Number, and Issued and Expiration Dates)
Maryland Safety Inspection (you can do it before or after tagging vehicle)
**Notarized Bill of Sale (ONLY if vehicle is 7 years or newer). Bill of sale MVA Template available to print under our form's section.
*Other documents may be require depending on the situation. Call us to verify.
** If you do not have a Notarized Bill of Sale, taxes will be calculated based on the vehicle's value and NOT based on vehicle's price.
Usually when you buy a vehicle in a Maryland dealership, the dealership will also do your tag and title work. If that is not the case, you will need the following to title and tag your vehicle:
Original Title or Certificate of Origin.
Temporary Registration (if you are financing).
Bill of Sale.
Lien Release, if applicable.
*Reassignment(s).
Drivers License (for all owners).
Insurance Information (Name of Insurance company, Policy Number, and Issued and Expiration Dates)
Financing Information, if applicable.
Title Application (Dealership or us can provide the form, or if you want to print, you can access it under our Form's section)
*Reassignments are complete page(s) that will detail how the vehicle has been transfer from dealer to dealer.
If you purchase a vehicle from an Out of State Dealer and would like to register in Maryland, you will need:
Original Title or Certificate of Origin
Bill of Sale
Reassignment(s), if applicable.
Lien Release, if applicable
Insurance Information (Name of Insurance company, Policy Number, and Issued and Expiration Dates)

WELCOME TO MARYLAND!
If you are coming from a different State, you will need the following to tag and title your vehicle in Maryland:
Current Title- if vehicle is paid off, it is not being financed or the current State has provided you with a title even if you are financing.
Current Registration- if you are financing and your State does not provide a title.
Maryland Insurance (Company Name, Policy Number, Effective and Expiration Dates)
Safety Inspection- can be done before or after registering vehicle
Title Application (found under our Form's section or we can provide it at our office)

Gift transactions can only be done between family members and with a Maryland title. Situation may vary depending on relationship type, please read the back of the VR-103 Application for Maryland Gift Certification that can be found under our Form's section.
You will need:
Original Maryland Title
Lien Release, if applicable
VR-103 Gift Form (signed by Giver and Receiver)
Gifting between Parent and Child or between Spouses you will need proof of relationship ONLY if last names are different- (Marriage License and/or Birth Certificates may be required)
Other types of relationship will need to show proof of relationship.
